The College of Social Work at the University of Kentucky offers an innovative and exciting MSW curriculum aimed to equip MSW graduates for the tasks and responsibilities encountered in professional social work practice. The College of Social Work promotes community and individual well-being through its translational research and scholarship, exemplary teaching, and vital community engagement. The College is committed to the people and social institutions throughout Kentucky, the nation, and the world. The College, like the University, is an organization that cultivates a diverse academic community characterized by interpersonal fairness and social justice. The College is fiercely committed to developing outstanding social work professionals -- leaders who will serve individuals, families, and communities through innovative and effective practices that are guided by cultural competency, systematic ethical analysis, and a keen and pragmatic understanding of the human condition. Our MSW program is open to all undergraduate degrees and may be completed full time or part time, in either a hybrid or online format. The MSW program has two Specializations: 1) Advanced Generalist Practice (AGP) Specialization and 2) Military Specialization, the latter of which is only offered on the off-campus site option in Fort Sam, Houston, Texas. The Advanced Generalist Practice (AGP) Specialization is constructed as a strong generalist program that is organized around the CSWE competencies and prepares students for advanced practice across the micro-macro continuum with diverse populations. The AGP Specialization includes a focus on practice with individuals and families and employs a bio-psychosocial and developmental framework that builds upon the foundation year of study. The AGP Specialization also includes a focus on practice with communities and organizations that employs a multi-system analytical and empowerment framework and builds upon the foundation courses to focus on the link between individual and community well-being and practice. In addition, students may complete certificates in Military Behavioral Health, School Social Work, Gerontology, and Developmental Disabilities or students may complete coursework specific to cognate areas of clinical social work or integrated behavioral health. Students may attend classes on UK’s main campus in Lexington, at Morehead/Ashland, KY, or at the UK Center of Excellence in Rural Health-Hazard in Southeast Kentucky. We also offer a fully online version of our MSW program.
